This is also true with regard to sustaining their age-old ways of life and living circumstances.  A comprehensive analysis of the tribal living conditions in the state is essential to get a clear idea of the ‘developmental issues and concerns’ and to arrive at clear ways of resolving them. Several tribal communities or a majority of their hamlets have already shifted or are in the process of shifting to the new living circumstances. Not being a smooth shift, involves serious struggles for survival with drastic shifts being demanded in the modes livelihood, patterns of living, belief systems etc. This has brought the traditional ways of tribal existence in the state under serious challenge with old models of coexistence and environment-based living nearly put to an end. Amidst this state of affairs, it is truly a fascinating scene to watch that in a few hamlets of certain tribal communities, such as Muthuvans in Idukki district and its adjoining areas in Kerala, the elements of traditional life still survive despite their intermixture with the mainstream population. The paper draws from field observations and attempts to understand the trajectory of tribal existences in Kerala State. The move from tradition to the present day modernity is closely analysed here, with or without the academic rigour, in order to present the reader with some dairy notes that could be useful to comprehend the magnitude of the change and the ensuing struggles. Literature reveals two major streams of argument for this, one questioning the comparability of the reported rates of morbidity and the other admitting that the higher rates of morbidity actually represent the situation.  The present study analyses the pattern of morbidity in Kerala, tries to analyse the morbidity pattern and finds out the reasons for highest morbidity in highest Monthly Per Capita Consumption Expenditure (MPCE) group and lower morbidity in ST households. The paper argues that the prevalence of lifestyle diseases among highest MPCE group is one critical reason for the high morbidity rates in Kerala. It also proposes urgent interventions on behalf of the government that can effectively counter the high rates of infectious diseases among ST households. Marital rape and its recognition are discussed as a new boundary mark because of greater social sensitivity on violence. From an intercultural social work perspective, it is highly relevant to learn more about perceptions of different kinds of violence in order to plan adequate interventions. The article presents findings from expert interviews related to the perception and the intervention structure contextualised by the discourse on marital rape in India. It concludes six main implications for intercultural social work. The main finding (6) states that in all of these settings, the role of the family system should not be underestimated, and whenever possible couple counselling should be considered. Viewed against the background of the highly individualised Swiss society, this is a finding, which needs to be taken into careful account in Swiss intercultural social work.
