This varies according to child variables (such as, age, gender, presence/absence of problem behaviours, associated conditions and severity of mental retardation), family variables (such as, type of family, socio economic status, maternal age and education) respectively.It was studied on a sample of 140 children with mild and moderate mental retardation between chronological ages of 6-18 years and mental ages of 3-12 years. The sample included 71 boys and 69 girls. The paper explores the personal, family and educational background of the physicians. This would enable us not only to have a social profile of the medical practitioners in the social system, but may also be of relevance in explaining their professional performance. An important finding of the study reveals that the proportion of those coming from higher social origins being marginally higher at 55 percent. It could be indicating to a trend in which the share of less privileged in higher ranking professions is on the rise. An attempt is made to understand the implications of social origin for other traits. The findings reveal that social origin varies significantly with rural urban background, basis for medical education, age at thinking of medical professions and educational grades of the physicians. However, it varies independent of gender, age and educational achievements of the physicians studied. A total of 100 (66 male + 34 female) students studying in management and humanities were randomly selected for the study. They were administered IPAT anxiety scale (Cattel & Scheier, 1963) and Spirituality scale (Piedmont, 1999). Results revealed that an alarming 43% of the students suffer from morbid anxiety and only 4% of them were found to be secure. Demographic variables like gender, age and course did not have influence over anxiety. Further, students with different levels of anxiety did not differ in their spirituality scores. A general discussion on anxiety reduction techniques were also described at the end.
