<text>Even in the 21st century, agriculture is the major source of livelihood for majority of Indian population. But agricultural sector is under the big threat of economic reforms like liberalization and modernization of economy. The agrarian economy of Kerala could not exclude from the drastic hitting of the liberalization, privatization and globalization reforms; farmers of the state began to think that there is no other way to sustain their life. Cashewnut is one of the major cash crop became the victim of Liberalization, Privatization and Globalization (LPG) reforms. The export of agricultural produce make it difficult to get a better price for cashewnut and so many diseases are also contributing in the crisis of this cultivation. The area under cashew cultivation has started coming down over the years and the decline in area and yield growth rate was responsible for the negative growth rate in production for cashewnut and the share of real components is negative for the overall growth of output of this crop compared to monetary components and unless there are concerted efforts by the government to create awareness among cashew growers on scientific cultivation methods, there will be a conversion of cashew plantations into rubber plantations.</text>

<text>This article is an attempt to explore and analyse the practice of levying Kuzhikkanam (tomb fee) for the burial of dead bodies in the Syrian church cemeteries in Kerala. There are eighteenth and nineteenth century palm leaf records in the Syrian churches which provide a lot of interesting information on this practice. This term is borrowed from the secular practice of levying Kulikkanam (Kuzhikkanam), that is, rent paid for cultivating the land that was newly brought under cultivation by land improvements either through reclamation or deforestation.</text>

<text>The French travelers and adventurers in the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries stated that Hindu philosophy, meteorology, Sanskrit language, literature, history and culture were taught by the Brahmans in schools. Indian education system has been a fascinating domain for the French voyager‟s observation who make compare and contrast with standard, knowledge and rationality of the Orient with Occidental world. Most of the travelers showed in their observations, a kind of superiority in terms of rationality and scientific knowledge of the west in comparison to east. These travelers highlighted a demeaning picture of Indian education system which according to them was based on sluggish, monotonous and irrational basis. The objective of this paper is to narrate the observations made by the French voyagers regarding Indian education system and its implications. Many firsthand French adventurers‟ records have been used in this paper in order to make an assessment of Indian education system by analyzing their records.</text>

Using a phenomenological paradigm, ten Psychotherapists in clinical practice were interviewed to explore the intrinsic and extrinsic factors that enable them to cope with stress as well as their perception of environmental factors that contribute to resilience. Thematic analysis was used to capture personal coping and environmental factors that contribute to resilience. The findings are discussed and implications for further research indicted.</text>

<text>Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD) or Emotionally Unstable Personality Disorder (EUPD) clients are characterised by behavioural symptoms of acts of deliberate self-harm, difficulty controlling anger, and instability in relationships, besides others. While specific therapies address specific problem behaviours, an integrated or eclectic approach enables clinicians to adopt a comprehensive therapy plan (Livesley, 2008). Since the therapeutic relationship with BPD clients is characterised by frequent ruptures and fluctuations, it is necessary to understand how the eclectic stance approaches the therapeutic relationship with BPD clients. This study explores these questions through in-depth interviews with seven self-identified eclectic therapists who have worked with BPD clients. Using Thematic Network Analysis, it was found from the interviews that eclectic therapists choose the stance because of the flexibility it offers them, and because of definite client and setting factors. This stance, they suggested, helps in mutual decision-making and leads the therapist to make constant adjustments to the client‘s level. The process of rapport-building was seen to be an on-going process, where the therapist acts as a facilitator, and often works against resisting traits of the clients. Therapists also talked about ruptures in the relationship due to certain factors and identified means through which these can be repaired. Finally, they identified their reactions to BPD clients as consisting of both positive reactions, and negative and unconscious reactions, which require monitoring. The results of this study yield an understanding about the reasons behind the decision to take an eclectic stance, and how it affects the therapeutic relationship. Keywords: Borderline personality disorder, Eclectic therapy, Therapeutic alliance.</text>

<text>Are happiness and well-being are not synonymous? Some say yes. There are others who say well-being = happiness + meaning. Subjective wellbeing (SWB) is the aspect of happiness that can be empirically measured. It is a combination of positive affect and general life satisfaction. This study explores Ashtanga Yoga as a tool for individual and societal wellbeing. Yoga is not a set of contorted postures and breathing exercises as it is being popularised today. The yogic way of life is not other-worldly. It offers a holistic life style full of bliss, peace and tranquillity. A person who is tranquil and has peace within himself will spread it around, and in the process peace, tranquillity, happiness and wellbeing will prevail in such a society.</text>

<text>Geriatric Social Work is becoming ostensibly crucial in contemporary times. The modes and modalities being discussed in strengthening geriatric well-being deserve mammoth attention. In this context, Yoga Therapy is being envisioned as one among the strides towards Successful Ageing. The practice of Yoga in India can be traced to thousands of years back and has rolled down to generations through innumerable strategies. Yoga is considered as a practical philosophy that facilitates people to improve their Quality of Life. It is a discipline that has evolved in response to the problems in contemporary society without losing its true essence. Research in the field of Yoga Therapy advocates it to be the best means to ensure the quality living, especially in old age. Yoga helps to mitigate, alleviate, and reverse many of the geriatric problems, both physical and mental. The proposed paper is based on an experimental study conducted among elderly people in Kerala. The paper describes Yoga in its essence based on Patanjaly Yoga Sutra thereby scientifically analyzing its effect on our body. It emphasizes the practicality for quality living in old age and provides suggestions for successful ageing.

<text>Spirituality has been described as the central philosophy of life which guides peoples’ conduct and is the core of individual existence that integrates and transcends the physical, emotional, intellectual, ethical, volitional and social dimensions. World Health Organization (WHO) has included spirituality in its comprehensive definition of holistic health. It is recognized as a protective factor or resource when dealing with critical illness and disabilities. Spirituality and religious faith exert a primary preventive effect against morbidity in multiple populations, and has a positive association with psychological well-being. A growing body of research has investigated the relationship of various spiritual and religious indices to various aspects of health. Empirical studies have revealed that spirituality and religious beliefs help prevent physical and mental illness, reducing symptoms severity and relapse rate, and enhancing recovery from diverse set of ailments. Spiritual transcendence (connectedness with God) has been found to play crucial role in coping with illness. The purpose of the present article is to explore the role of spiritual and religious practices in promoting health and wellness among the people inflicted with illness. The paper also highlights implications for health practices and future research in complimentary therapies. Keywords; Spirituality, Well-Being, Coping, Holistic Health.</text>

<text>The article explores social psychological aspects concerned with diasporic relationships among the South Asian diaspora in Denmark and is a follow up of a project conducted in the mid-nineties. The first wave focussed on the intergenerational relations within the double challenge perspective dealing with age transition and ethnic belonging while the second wave focuses at the relationships across the borders within a theoretical framework of life course perspectives combined with diaspora conceptualisations. In-depth interviews were conducted and analysed through meaning condensation. The gendered experiences of the young adults perceived as active actors indicate reinterpretation of the self, others and home. The results depict that the young adults‘ relationships involve both the country of origin and the Danish welfare society, though refutes the myth of return, in spite of Denmark turning increasingly restrictive in migration policies in the past years. How does moving across the geographical borders affect the relationships of diaspora members both here– in the country of residence and there- in the country of origin? The article delineates some of the processes through gendered experiences of the young adults perceived as active actors based on an empirical longitudinal study. The results indicate transformations in belongings and longings indicating reinterpretation of the self, others and home in context of exclusion processes at various levels.</text>
