It draws on an original theoretical perspectivegrounded in the sociology of deviance to study the violations of norms andrules in the global nuclear non-proliferation regime. As such, this projectprovides a unique conceptual framework and applies it to highly salientissues in the contemporary international security environment. Thetheoretical/conceptual chapters are accompanied by three extensive case.studies: Iran, North Korea, and India</text>

<text>Development cooperation or aid is often perceived as a form of charity or agood deed that is being carried out only with the best intentions. Racism,on the other hand, is most often connected with right wing extremism(even though in Slovakia it is connected also with the wider political center). The basic assumption of this theoretical article is the opposite. One can findracism also in development and development cooperation. The article triesto answer the following question: What are the main forms of racism indevelopment and development cooperation? On the basis of the extant andmy own research the article categorizes the forms of racism in developmentand development cooperation and identifies the three main ones:development discourse, structural racism connected with the raciallydi!erentiated global capitalist system and an everyday racism connectedwith racially biased institutions. The conclusion poses a question regardingthe way one may fight these forms of racism and briefly answers it.</text>

<text>The focus of this study lies in the instrumental use of history as a tool forthe legitimization of political claims. Our paper is related to the SlovakNational Uprising, which plays a crucial role in the national mythology ofSlovakia. This role is a reason why the annual celebrations of this historicalevent are one of the most important political occasions in the country. Many politicians use the celebrations as an opportunity to highlight manypolitical issues and address a broad audience. Using semi-participantobservation, we analysed five anniversary celebrations of the event (2015–2019) and the securitization strategies inherited in the speeches ofpoliticians at the celebrations. We showed that not only topics related to thelegacy of the anti-fascist uprising (e.g. contemporary right-wing extremism)are securitized or serve as objects of the creation of moral panic duringthese events. Some other, unrelated actors/phenomena are securitized orlabelled as a threat as well – especially immigration and the politics of theEU. This fact notwithstanding, the legacy of the SNU was always used forthe legitimization of securitization/creation of moral panic.</text>

<text>This Handbook maps the contours of an exciting and burgeoning interdisciplinary field concerned with the role of language and languages in situations of conflict. It explores conceptual approaches, sources of information that are available, and the institutions and actors that mediate language encounters. It examines case studies of the role that languages have played in specific conflicts, from colonial times through to the Middle East and Africa today. The contributors provide vibrant evidence to challenge the monolingual assumptions that have affected traditional viewsof war and conflict. They show that languages are woven into every aspect of the making of war and peace, and demonstrate how language shapes public policy and military strategy, setting frameworks and expectations. The Handbook's 22 chapters powerfully illustrate how the encounter between languages is integral to almost all conflicts, to every phase of military operations and to the lived experiences of those on the ground, who meet, work and fight with speakers of other languages. Thiscomprehensive work will appeal to scholars from across the disciplines of linguistics, translation studies, history, and international relations; and provide fresh insights for a broad range of practitioners interested in understanding the role and implications of foreign languages in war.</text>

<text>The phenomenal story of China’s ‘unprecedented disposition to engage theinternational legal order’ has been primarily told and examined by politicalscientists and economists. Since China adopted its ‘open door’ policy in1978, which altered its development strategy from self-su!ciency to activeparticipation in the world market and aimed at attracting foreigninvestment to fuel its economic development, the underlying policy formobilizing inward foreign direct investment (IFDI) remains unchanged todate. With the 1997 launch of the ‘Going Global’ policy, an outward focusregarding foreign investment has been added, to circumvent trade barriersand improve the competitiveness of Chinese firms, typically its state-ownedenterprises (SOEs). In order to accommodate inward and outward FDI,China’s participation in the international investment regime hasunderpinned its efforts to join multi-lateral investment-related legalinstruments and conclude international investment agreements (IIAs).China began by selectively concluding bilateral investment treaties (BITs)with developed countries (major capital exporting states to China at thattime), signing its first BIT with Sweden in 1982. Despite being a latecomer, over time China’s experience and practice with the international investmentregime have allowed it to evolve towards liberalizing its IIAs regime andbalancing the duties and benefits associated with IIAs. The book spans abroad spectrum of China’s contemporary international investment law andpolicy: domestic foreign investment law and reforms, tax policy, bilateralinvestment treaties, free trade agreements, G20 initiatives, the ‘One BeltOne Road’ initiative, international dispute resolution, and inter-regimecoordination.</text>

<text>Pope Francis confuses many observers because his papacy does not fitneatly into any pre-established classificatory schemes. To gain a deeperappreciation of Francis’s complicated papacy, this volume proposes that aninterdisciplinary approach, fusing concepts derived from moral theologyand the social sciences, may properly situate Pope Francis as a globalpolitical entrepreneur. The chapters in this volume ask what di!erence itmakes that he is the first pope from Latin America, how and why di!erentcountries in the world respond to him, how his understanding of scriptureinforms his ideas on economic, social, and environmental policy, and wherepolitics meets theology under Francis. In the end, this volume seeks toprovide a more robust understanding of the enigmatic papacy of Francis.</text>

<text>At the root of inequality, unemployment, and populism are radical changesin the world economy. Digital technology is allowing talented foreigners totelecommute into our workplaces and compete for service and professionaljobs. Instant machine translation is melting language barriers, so the ranksof these "tele-migrants" will soon include almost every educated person inthe world. Computing power is dissolving humans' monopoly on thinking, enabling AI-trained computers to compete for many of the same white-collar jobs. The combination of globalization and robotics is creating theglobotics upheaval, and it threatens the very foundations of the liberalwelfare-state.Richard Baldwin, one of the world's leading globalization experts, arguesthat the inhuman speed of this transformation threatens to overwhelm ourcapacity to adapt. From computers in the office to automatic orderingsystems in restaurants, we are familiar with the how digital technologiesoffer convenience while also eliminating jobs. Globotics will disrupt the livesof millions of white-collar workers much faster than automation, industrialization, and globalization disrupted the lives of factory workers inprevious centuries. The result will be a backlash. Professional, white-collar,and service workers will agitate for a slowing of the unprecedented pace ofdisruption, as factory workers have done in years past.Baldwin argues that the globotics upheaval will be countered in the shortrun by "shelter-ism" - government policies that shelter some service jobsfrom tele-migrants and thinking computers. In the long run, people willwork in more human jobs-activities that require real people to use theuniquely human ability of independent thought-and this will strengthenbonds in local communities.
