The purpose of this study was to examine a range of flexible user interface designs for mobile phones with the aim of locating and addressing the limitations reported by elderly users. Accordingly, a fuzzy model drawing on a range of variables was developed from an age/vision impaired related data set for the development of a variety of basic design elements for user interfaces. The model was tested to assess the preciseness and accuracy of its functions, achieving a Mean Absolute Error (MAE) close to 0 and an Effectiveness Index (EI) close to 1, giving the model a high value for effectiveness. A subsequent usability test of the generated design interfaces using four types of mobile phones (18 screens in all) was conducted among 25 elderly users with vision impairment.  The findings showed that the size and shape of both numeric and function buttons was a significant factor in assessing phone usability both for communication and for social media use, as was text and number size, although, significantly, the latter was qualified by screen size. Recommended numeric and dial function button sizes are 15.6mm and 16.2 mm, respectively. Likewise, recommended text and numbers sizes are 14 and 25 points, respectively. Furthermore, square-shaped buttons with rounded-edge buttons are the most suitable for elderly users, as is a background in a light shade, with texts and icons in dark colors. The model demonstrates that it is possible to design user interfaces with particular groups in mind such as the elderly and vision-impaired, in order to enhance mobile phone usability for these groups. Secondly, the primary level of education was more dominant in the related studies than the secondary and tertiary levels. Thirdly, it emphasised more on the students with a lower prevalence on teachers and both teachers and students as the respondents in the associated studies. This paper contributes to systematically reviewing 19 eligible related studies through a step-by-step protocol of identification, screening, eligibility and included as in the PRISMA guideline to establish quality review. It benefits both the English Language teachers and students in utilising various mobile learning platforms to support the mastery of spelling at all levels of education. It aspires to foreground the paucity in this topic in which more substantial studies are required to address the research gaps. Cognitive load theory has been gaining increasing levels of importance within usability evaluations for mobile applications and the user interface. The PACMAD model has proven that cognitive workload (CL) can be seen as being a primary usability evaluation attribute in relation to mobile applications. Once the tasks that have been assigned to users within the environment of the mobile application have been performed by the evaluator, he/she subjectively measures the CL. Typically, subjective measurements are taken at a point following completion of a task and so they are static. Since these methods are static in nature, they are inappropriate for assessment of dynamic changes to the cognitive loads through user interaction. Robust measurement of the cognitive load of a user within real-time is not a simple, trivial undertaking. Lots of research studies have tried to assess the CL of users through use of various subjective measurements, though it is often the case that those approaches are unsuitable for use with real-life applications because of the high degree of intrusiveness. Automated measurement is seen as being a field that is relatively unexplored, particularly if used in relation to CL for mobile applications. The COG tool (CL automated tool) is proposed in this paper since it supports the interaction logging of the user for derivation of CL metrics that are based upon both secondary and primary tasks. Several strengths are provided by the automated measurement of CL, and it fills the gaps of a static nature of its non-objective, automated (subjective) counterpart. Within this research, in order for the study aim to be satisfied, objective CL metrics have been used by the researcher, i.e., task time, task success rate, number of touches, number of errors, duration on help, help visit count, total effort percentage and reaction on help. A total of 68 participants were recruited for the experiment, with them using an AAU mobile application through performance of a task that was predefined without there being any interference of a moderator or researcher. The findings showed that the proposed tool could fulfill the expected cognitive load monitoring functions amongst user interaction, collection of cognitive metrics and the logging of CL metrics that could be analyzed further. More and more companies and people are using and reaping the benefits from them. This paper shows how a chatbot for mathematical tasks, named mathbot, was developed. The chatbot uses mathematical exercises from the “Schulapps” of the LearningLab of Graz, University of Technology and combines them with textual questions to provide a useful utility for practicing. It is shown that such a chatbot could be useful for pupils and teachers by evaluating a test run in an elementary school.
