<text>The Eastern EU enlargement (2004, 2007, 2013) is still one of the success stories of the EU (and unprecedented in the world), but at the same time it is controversial and is perceived as controversial. One of the core problems has been its unbalanced character: the whole process had a clear `Single Market` focus and the values of a `Social Europe` were of secondary importance. Based on a neofunctionalist approach the paper discusses the integration of the new member states from the point of view of economic and income convergence. Along with a literature review, data on wages, productivity and output will be analysed to demonstrate that upward convergence of the poorer new member states towards the EU average had been stalled in wake of the 2009 crisis. The resulting cleavages put the core hypothesis of the neofunctionalist approach - that EU integration has a `direction` in terms of an upwards convergence - into question.</text>

<text>The recent recession that swept through this and many countries worldwide had many causes, one of which was low interest rates in the United States. Loose monetary policy pursued by former Chairman of the Federal Reserve Alan Greenspan was a major component of the housing crash and following recession. Furthermore, the Fed’s current monetary policy is extremely similar to policy pursued before the 2008 recession. The current system of monetary policy implemented in the U.S., necessitating that credit and debt expand forever, is a dangerous and potentially disastrous policy to be pursuing. Unless a change takes place, the American economy could experience another — and possibly worse — recession in the near future. </text>

<text>The experience of economic liberalisation began to be felt by every common person in India during the mid 90s.The effects, however, were not uniform. It had a number of resultant outcomes depending upon the variables in the respective situations. The effects, for example, on rural and urban lives, were different. The receiver-benefits by the 'haves' and 'have-nots' were not the same. The economic liberalisation had two broad economic contributes to the people in India: emergence of monetary economy over and above other forms of economies, and increase in the options and opportunities for livelihood. The social consequences of economic liberalisation could be seen in the three main constituents of the social system: the individual, the family and the community. And the consequences are not all very encouraging. The paper argues that identifying change is the first step towards managing change and acknowledging change is a precondition for effective change management. Identifying and acknowledging the social consequences of economic liberalisation is most likely to help in the continuation of interventions that are needed for the constructive strengthening of the social order of society</text>

<text>Since the global financial crisis, European governments have sought to intensify the supervision of financial markets. Yet, few studies have empirically examined whether regulatory approaches have systematically shifted in the aftermath of the crisis, and how these reforms have been mediated by longstanding national strategies to promote domestic financial interests in the European single market. Examining hundreds of enforcement actions in three key European jurisdictions, I find a mixed pattern of continuity and change in the aftermath of the crisis. In the UK, aggregate monetary penalties and criminal sanctions have skyrocketed since 2009, while in France and Germany, the enforcement pattern suggests continuity, with both countries assessing penalties and prosecuting insider trading at similar rates before and after the crisis. I conclude that financial regulation is still structured by longstanding industrial strategies (Story and Walter, 1997), but where pre-existing regulatory approaches were seen as contributing to the crisis, a broader regulatory overhaul has been pursued. Thus, in the UK, where the financial crisis served as a direct rebuke to the country’s “light touch” regulation, financial supervision was overhauled, and monetary sanctions dramatically increased, to preserve London’s status as an international financial centre. By contrast, in France and Germany, where domestic regulatory systems were implicated by the financial crisis, domestic securities supervision and enforcement was less dramatically altered. While the crisis has led to the further institutionalization of European-level supervisory institutions, these changes have not yet led to convergence in national regulatory approaches.

<text>China started its market oriented reform process in 1978. Reforms have covered all major sectors of the economy including agriculture, industry, finance, international trade and investment. The major characteristics of reforms are managerial autonomy, decentralized decision-making and the opening up of the economy. Reforms have resulted in higher productivity and higher economic growth. China became the fastest growing economy of the world through the reform process. The entry into the WTO will further deepen the reforms. Recent years have witnessed dramatic rise in. India's interest in China, mainly because of the poor performance of Indian economy as compared to China. India has lot of lessons tofearn from China's reform process. Some of the lessons are: (i) India should give emphasis on agricultural sector which has been neglected so far in the reform process, (ii) efforts should be made to attract more FDI, (iii) trade should be liberalized more removing restrictions so as to integrate the economy with the world economy, and, (iv) attention should be patd-towards the development of high quality infrastructure. Precisely, India should push her second-generation reforms forward to catch up with China.

<text>The ecosystem services concept is a useful tool in environmental law, as it allows nature to be considered on the same plane of comparison as proposed development. However, the concept has received significant criticism, with many critics arguing that nature should be valued for its intrinsic worth. This article synthesises the ethical objections to the ecosystem services concept, distinguishing objections to the concept itself, and objections to the commodification of nature. It considers how the concept has been used in Australian environmental law to date, drawing on examples from the coastal wetland context. It concludes that most applications have not involved commodification, and have incorporated notions of intrinsic value. It concludes with some observations for future progress in this field, considering how the ecosystem services concept can be balanced with concerns for respecting the intrinsic value of nature.</text>

<text>The study investigates the nature and degree of influence of the range of application usability variables on the learning experience of the students at a specific institution of higher education institution in Oman. The study was carried out via eDify implementation encompassing the usability variables and learning experience of the students. Literature does little to suggest the aforementioned relationship in the context of the Omani higher education. The current study would reveal the variables that are critical to effective technology-based learning of the students. The implications generated through the study would allow the institution involved in the study to effectively implement the variables required for enhanced teaching and learning. The methodology used in the study is divided into an exploratory and the main research. Principal component analysis and a range of regression analyses are conducted to test the relationships between the independent and the dependent variable, “learning experience”. Results suggest that the usability variables have both positive and significant effects on the dependent variable of the learning experience. One usability variable that stands out more than others is the usage of mobile media.</text>
