Date A point or period of time associated with an event in the lifecycle of the resource 2021-04-27 Description An account of the resource ENVIRONMENTAL ISSUES IN RECENT BRITISH AND CANADIAN ELECTIONS               The 2019 elections in Britain and Canada illustrate the difficulties in communication between a concerned public and prospective office-holders on the most critical set of issues of our times.  An increased level of public awareness and concern about the state of the environment has been expressed in public opinion polls, social movement activity has increased, and Green parties have expanded their appeal.  Despite these developments in recent years, environmental issues have not been able to exert a major impact on individual voting behaviour in elections, or on overall election outcomes.  Issues related to the environment are usually treated, by both politicians and the public, in valence terms.  Valence issues are ones upon which there is broad consensus about the goals of public policy, and political debate focuses not on "what to accomplish" but rather on "how to do it" and "who is best able."  Regarding the environment, general formulations like global warming and climate change prompt politicians to offer concerned rhetoric and engage in virtue signaling, but specific policy proposals are often absent.                 This paper examines four reasons why environmental/climate change issues did not have a major impact on the 2019 Canadian and British elections. First, environmental concern in society at large was imperfectly translated into election issues.  Second, the major political parties produced inadequate and unconvincing environmental manifestos.  Third, environmental issues were not central to most voting decisions. Fourth, environmental issues had limited impacts on election outcomes. This app is an easy- to- use mobile app. The researchers conducted a preliminary study with school and college students whereby they were given online questionnaires before and after using the Apps. The low order, time domain, combined doublet and source panel method approximates the doublet and source distribution uniformly over each panel on the propeller blades. For non-lifting bodies, i.e., the hub and ice block, only sources are distributed over the body surfaces. The simulation model is contrived in such a manner that the ice block and surrounding fluid remain stationary; and at each time step, the propeller rotates and advances forward in the inertial reference frame. This numerical model is validated with previous fixed-proximity experimental measurements and good agreement is obtained. Prediction of the fluctuating hydrodynamic load is carried out as a full dynamic interaction between the ice block and the propeller. Results for this study are compared with previous fixed-proximity numerical models and experiments. The new dynamic model establishes a basis for analysis of a more realistic fluid-structure interaction, which could, in the future, include ice block acceleration due to suction force and ice block impact loading on the propeller blade and shaft. This mobile remote lab system comprises two huge blocks of hardware: a mobile station located by the boiler, which is monitored and controlled in a remote way, and a fixed station, located in the Laboratory of Energy for the Sustained Development of the Universidad Nacional de Rosario. The communication between the fixed and mobile devices is controlled by microcontrollers included in both stations and programmed in C language. The project is being developed through three parallel lines of work: 1) Design and development of fixed and mobile hardware; 2) Development of firmware and software necessary to register and communicate data; 3) Design and development of learning activities. This mobile remote lab will be useful to test the behavior of solar boilers in the place and environmental conditions where they are placed so as to evaluate their performance and efficiency anywhere.
