The sustainability of diving and snorkelling tourism is highly dependent on the quality and safety of the services provided. The regime already contemplates the role of operators, the impact of sting-protective swimwear and other matters. An independent review of the State’s workplace laws in 2017 influenced changes to the law to improve its clarity, enforcement and prosecutions. However, this article argues that in relation to the management of marine stinger risks, with further slight adjustments to enhance clarity and consistency, the regulatory framework could achieve greater effectiveness in terms of compliance. This is important in a harmonised regulatory system. Other jurisdictions in Australia facing dangerous jellyfish hazards can refer to Queensland’s laws as a model of industry standards for the provision of safer recreational water activities. In the case of the Slovak economic diplomacy both the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs and the Ministry of Economy are the main actors in external economic relations. The paper briefly describes the origins of the tension between them and the reconciliation process that took place in the 10 years since the last reform of Slovakia’s economic diplomacy. The crucial reconciling role of the Government’s advisory body, the Council on Export and Investment Promotion, co-chaired by the ministers of foreign affairs and economy, is explained within the presented descriptive case study inbureaucratic politics. The article contributes to the conceptual discourse on economic diplomacy, while extending the theoretical and empirical knowledge of the subject with regard to the behavior of its main power actors econand the tensions between them. These new readers need the law to be readable by them when they encounter it. However, the available empirical research supports a conclusion that legislation is difficult to read if not incomprehensible to most citizens. We review approaches that have been used to measure the readability of text including readability metrics, cloze testing and application of machine learning. We report the creation and testing of an open online platform for readability research. This platform is made available to researchers interested in undertaking research on the readability of legal materials. To demonstrate the capabilities ofthe platform, we report its initial application to a corpus of legislation. Linguistic characteristics are extracted using the platform and then used as input features for machine learning using the Weka package. Wide divergences are found between sentences in a corpus of legislation and those in a corpus of graded reading material or in the Brown corpus (a balanced corpus of English written genres). Readability metrics are found to be of little value in classifying sentences by grade reading level (noting that such metrics were not designed to be used with isolated sentences). The character of Nagdo Betala has its origins in the Konkani folklore.
