The results show that edmodo-based interactive teaching materials can be used as an alternative media for learning science in junior high schools because they meet the following criteria: (1) validity, in terms of the validity assessment score of 3.60 (from the range of scores from 0 to 4) in the criteria are very valid, (2) practicality, in terms of the score of learning feasibility of 3.20 in good criteria, (3) effectiveness, in terms of an increase students critical thinking skills were statistically significant at α = 5% with an average n-gain of .71 in high criteria, and student responses of 83% in very good criteria. The paper focuses on the manner in which the DF selects and trains personnel for this operational task, and the degree to which this enables the organisation to meet UN requirements. The article explores international military best practice relating to pre-deployment training and examines Irish policy and practice, presenting the results of interviews conducted with relevant Irish personnel. The research demonstrates that, while there is no doubt that the DF is meeting the operational requirements of its UN CIMIC tasks, this may be the result of its soldiers’ collective attitudes and behaviour rather than by design. This paper discusses a new method for classifying bubble sizes in non-contact and inexpensive approach using ultrasound analysis. Exploiting the principle of buoyancy, free rising bubbles with larger volumes elevate faster to the surface compared to the smaller ones, given that they have the same densities. An envelope detector is proposed which tracks the changes in the ultrasound signals reflected by the bubbles when they cross the ultrasound field. These changes in the reflected signals are distinctive for the sizes under consideration. Relevant spectral and linear predictive coding features that represent the distinct characteristics are extracted. These features are fed to a feed-forward artificial neural network to successfully classify air bubbles according to their sizes with an accuracy of 98.8%. This method provides promising applications to be implemented in industrial, biomedical and environmental fields.
