<text>Automatic hexahedral mesh generation is a very deserving solution for better performance of finite element analysis of complex large structures. At present plastering, whisker weaving and whisker weaving based plastering algorithm are available to perform such tasks. As these hexahedral mesh generation processes are fully automatic, it is possible to form some elements, which don’t have high enough qualities for finite element analysis. For this reason, a reliable post-processing method is presented in this paper which can modify the shapes of the already generated hexahedrons. Four different structural models are tested and the results show that the proposed method can effectively modify the quality of the inverted hexahedrons and eliminate the invalid ones. Keywords: Doublet; triplet; quadruplet; Whisker weaving based plastering algorithm; hexahedral meshDOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.3329/jname.v8i2.5646Journal of Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering 8(2011) 121-128</text>

<text>This research proposes mesh and domain optimization strategies for a popular Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) technique to estimate the open water propulsive characteristics of fixed pitch propellers accurately and time-efficiently based on examining the effect of various mesh and computation domain parameters. It used a Reynolds-Averaged Navier-Stokes (RANS) solver to predict the propulsive performance of a fixed pitch propeller with varied meshing, simulation domain and setup parameters. The optimized mesh and domain size parameters were selected using Design of Experiments (DoE) methods enabling simulations in a limited memory and in a timely manner without compromising the accuracy of results. The predicted thrust and torque for the propeller were compared to the corresponding measurements for determining the prediction accuracy. The authors found that the optimized meshing and setup arrangements reduced the propeller opens simulation time by at least a factor of six as compared to the generally popular CFD parameter setup. In addition, the accuracy of propulsive characteristics was improved by up to 50% as compared to published simulation results. The methodologies presented in this paper can be similarly applied to other simulations such as calm water ship resistance, ship propulsion etc. to systematically derive the optimized meshing arrangement for simulations with minimal simulation time and maximum accuracy. This investigation was carried out using a commercial CFD package; however, the findings can be applied to any RANS solver.</text>

<text>This paper describes a research program on podded propulsors that combines parallel developments in numerical prediction methods and experimental evaluation. Amongst the hydrodynamic issues that have been identified and addressed are questions regarding the effects of hub taper angle, pod-strut configurations, static azimuthing conditions, pod-strut interactions, gap pressure, pod gap and pod-strut geometry on podded propulsors' performance. On the experimental side, a pod dynamometer system consisting of a six-component global dynamometer and a three-component pod dynamometer were designed, manufactured and used to perform measurements on propeller thrust and torque and unit forces and moments in the three orthogonal directions in pusher and puller configurations in open water conditions. Four propellers with the same blade sections but different hub taper angles were designed and used to fit with eighteen pod-strut shells. Among the shells, two pod-strut models were based on the average dimensions of commercial pods and used to study the hub angle, pod configuration, pod gap, gap pressure and azimuthing conditions effect on propulsive performance. The other sixteen pods were designed and manufactured to study the effect of five geometric parameters on hydrodynamic performance using a design of experiments technique. In another study, an experimental method was implemented in a cavitation tunnel to evaluate the wake/strut interaction of a podded propeller model. All of the measurements showed consistency.DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.3329/jname.v4i2.989Â Journal of Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering Vol.4(2) 2007 p 57-71</text>

<text>This paper describes the numerical aspects of a research program on podded propulsors, which is being undertaken jointly by the Ocean Engineering Research Centre at Memorial University of Newfoundland, the National Research Council's Institute for Ocean Technology, Oceanic Consulting Corporation, and Thordon Bearings Ltd. The numerical tool is an in-house panel method code, PROPELLA. The code is a low order source-doublet, steady/unsteady time domain panel method code having capabilities to predict hydrodynamic performance of screw propellers with various configurations. Under the research program, the code was extended and used to model the propellers, pod-strut combinations and strut-wake impingement model. Amongst the hydrodynamic issues that have been addressed through numerical predictions were questions regarding the effects of hub taper angle (propeller only case and pod-strut-propeller case), pod-strut configuration (push and pull), geometric variations, azimuthing conditions and pod-strut interactions (wake impingement effect) on podded propeller performance. Predictions were made both in pusher and puller configurations for the pods and reasonable agreement was achieved between the predictions and measurements. The code is being modified to study the podded propulsors' performance at static and dynamic azimuthing conditions. The code is also capable of performing simulations with propellers and bodies like ship hull, underwater vehicles with fins.DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.3329/jname.v4i2.990Â Journal of Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering Vol.4(2) 2007 p.73-86</text>

<text>This paper proposes a novel four-pronged solution for estimating routes and total time required to travel in a transportation network. The proposed solution attempts to optimize the Google’s Map API request flow using open street map (OSM). As it is known that each request to Google Map API will incur some latency, since different computation are performed on Google server for each request. To avoid this latency, route estimations (distance and time) are calculated using a four-pronged approach based on Google map API, open street map (OSM), routing cache and logical grid of locations. The objective is to create a generalized routing system that tries to use Google services in optimized fashion. The proposed approach stores each requests/ response from Google Map API into an optimized data structure called cache. After passage of time, these cache records are moved to another data structure called random access memory (RAM) file. In scenarios where requests can’t be served via stored data, the proposed system attempts to give approximate estimations based on open street map (OSM) using an A* search for finding route. In addition to this, data that has been cached in proposed approach can be used for further analysis or applying machine learning algorithm for off-line route calculations later.</text>

<text>Information hiding one of the important field of security which provide secure level for the information. Achieving multi levels of security system often researchers used cryptography side by side with steganography. Utilizing message digest algorithm to play the role of crypto which is extracted from secret created database. Message digest algorithm (MD5) used two times as one-way function to provide data integrity. The implemented system evaluated based on peak signal to noise ratio (PSNR) metric and the best value reaches 62.46. the proposed system works in adaptive behavior due to the different use of images as well as the selected point could be used to generate the hash code as well. The implemented system reaches up to sufficient level of security through using both steganography and cryptography.</text>

<text>This study aims to implement e-learning supported by social reality videos in a mobile application and explore its impact on improving student learning outcomes. This study used an experimental design (pretest-posttest control group design), two sample groups were used, they were the experimental and control groups. The experimental group was treated with e-learning supported by social reality videos in a mobile application, while the control group was given face-to-face learning and relied on the expository method. The number of research samples in each of the two groups was 28 students, they were students who took basic natural science courses at the Mandalika Education University. Pre-test and post-test were given with the same task in both groups. This study focuses on measuring student cognitive learning outcomes which are considered as the impact of induced learning in both treatment groups. Each learning outcome data was analyzed descriptively (analysis of average learning outcomes and n-gain), and statistical analysis (testing the hypothesis of differences in student learning outcomes between treatment groups), statistical analysis at a significance level of 0.05. In general, the results of the study shows that e-learning supported by social reality videos in a mobile application has a significant impact on improving student learning outcomes, and is found to be better than the expository method. We recommend its simultaneous use in regular lectures in the classroom.</text>

<text>Advances in technology have allowed mobile devices to be used for learning purpose. The use of tablets in mobile learning has the potential to enhance learning, contributing to increased motivation and knowledge acquisition. However, without careful planning and support for learning content, students may not have the behavioural intention to use tablets in their learning. Previous studies have focused on the use of learning applications installed in the tablets. There is a lack of research on students' behavioural intentions to use tablets in learning. The partial least squares regression approach and the Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology (UTAUT) were used in this study to explore students’ behavioural intention to use the tablet in learning. This study was conducted in a private school in Malaysia. A total of 170 participants were enrolled in this study. The results showed that most of the hypotheses of the study were not supported and further revealed that the construct of performance expectancy was the only determinant of students’ behavioural intentions to use the tablet in learning.</text>

This study explored the impact of perceived usefulness, perceived ease of use and usability of the system to their acceptability. The survey was constructed using a questionnaire consisting of statements regarding the participantsâ?? demographics, experiences in and perception of using mobile learning via SMS, involving 105 students from management and sciences disciplines. The Rasch Model Analysis was used for measurement correspond to a 5 point Likert. Results indicated that the usability of the system contributed to be effectiveness in assisting the students with their study. Respondents agree that SMS-learning is easy, effective and useful to help them study. However, the results found that there has been a problem in mobile learning that less interaction with lecturers. It implies that the acceptability of students to this mode on communication and interaction is highly endorsed.</text>

<text>The purpose of this study is to determine whether learners are willing to transfer learning in this mobile learning environment via SMS. The reason for this is to measure the effectiveness of the new method used in learning and education especially in distance education field. For this reason, studentsâ?? responses are gathered which looked at three factors namely learner characteristic, learning design and learning environment. The data are gathered through a survey research design with questionnaires using five-point likert scale. The questionnaires was administered for 105 distance education students from four courses including Bachelor of Science, Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Social Science and Bachelor of Management. The Rasch Model Analysis was used to measure these dimensions. Rasch Model is a one-parameter logistic model within item response theory (IRT) whereby the amount of a given latent trait in a person and the amount of that same latent trait reflected in various items can be estimated independently yet still compared explicitly to one another. The result of the study showed that learning transfer occurred and being influenced most by learnerâ??s characteristics especially in term of their motivation as well as their perceive utility/value of the SMS learning to their job and academic performances.</text>
