In recent years, fairly new devices called smart glasses become increasingly popular, which offer great potential for several use cases. One of the most famous representatives of smart glasses is Google Glass, a head-mounted display that is worn like normal eyeglasses produced by Google. This paper introduces an experimental prototype of a Google Glass application for colorblind people or people with a color vision deficiency, called OmniColor and meets the challenge if Google Glass is able to improve the color perception of those people. This paper discusses a new method for classifying bubble sizes in non-contact and inexpensive approach using ultrasound analysis. Exploiting the principle of buoyancy, free rising bubbles with larger volumes elevate faster to the surface compared to the smaller ones, given that they have the same densities. An envelope detector is proposed which tracks the changes in the ultrasound signals reflected by the bubbles when they cross the ultrasound field. These changes in the reflected signals are distinctive for the sizes under consideration. Relevant spectral and linear predictive coding features that represent the distinct characteristics are extracted. These features are fed to a feed-forward artificial neural network to successfully classify air bubbles according to their sizes with an accuracy of 98.8%. This method provides promising applications to be implemented in industrial, biomedical and environmental fields. However, the scientific and media discourse tends to oversimplify the underlying causes of these issues. While some authors attribute them to the heavy impact of climate change-induced scarcity, others focus on political factors such as bad governance. This article aims to merge the perspectives of Environmental Security and Political Ecology into one framework to provide a more holistic explanation of the problems in the Sahel. It shows how local political inequalities, marginalization, economic problems, military coups, corruption, and climate change mutually intersect in a mechanism that creates conflicts and insecurity. This is exacerbated by the geographical character of the Sahel states and their type of governance, which provides an operational space for many armed groups.
