<text>Previous research has examined the impact of the match between expert witness gender and the gender-orientation of the case, suggesting that traditional gender-role stereotyping was influencing mock jurors’ decisions. Manipulations of the orientation of the domain of the case focus on the knowledge area of the case itself, rather than the actual knowledge of the expert. This reveals little about the impact of the association between the role of the expert and the expert’s gender. The present study investigated whether perceivers make use of gender stereotypes as a shortcut for decisions when presented with the testimony of an expert witness. It was predicted that participants would award a higher amount of damages to the plaintiff when the plaintiff’s expert’s gender matched their role compared to when it did not match. It was also predicted that participants’ evaluation of the plaintiff’s expert witness’s testimony and the expert would be more positive in the gender-role congruent condition. As expected, the female expert’s testimony was viewed more positively when occupying a female-oriented role compared to a male-oriented role, and that the expertise of the female expert was evaluated more favourably in the female-oriented role compared to the male-oriented role. Despite the impact of gender stereotypes in biasing the evaluation of expert testimony on several dimensions, this had no apparent impact on award decisions.</text>

In deciding these matters, in a just and efficient manner according to law, courts will desirably have recourse to social science material and, perhaps less desirably, be influenced by underlying assumptions based on the decision-maker’s personal views. This article comments on three ways in which courts use social facts and treat social science material in the course of judicial decision-making. The authors suggest a ‘best practice’ approach for judges in approaching these questions, in the light of identified problems with the status quo.</text>

<text>Alcohol and Other Drug (‘AOD’) use is prevalent in Australia and worldwide, and is frequently a factor in many crimes. Police are often required to assess whether an individual is relevantly intoxicated. This article reviews the current laws and research surrounding intoxication detection by police, with a focus on Australia. It finds that legislation governing criminal law and police powers offers little guidance, and training in intoxication assessment appears to be underdeveloped. It concludes that assumptions of police expertise in AOD intoxication detection should be viewed with caution. Further research is required into the adequacy of initial and continuing police training, and into the practices employed by police officers on the streets, at the police station, and in the courtroom.</text>

<text>This paper presents the design, development, and evaluation of the Robobug board game, which was developed to foster computational thinking (CT) among primary school pupils in Malaysia, particularly those who encounter computer and Internet access issues. Utilizing Richey and Klein's design and development (DDR) methodologies, this research serves as a primer by first concentrating on needs analysis for the design, then converting it into the development of the board game. The focus of this study was on how the design aspects of Robobug might help children grasp CT principles and foster CT practices. The Robobug board game was initially assessed remotely via questionnaire by a panel of eight subject matter experts from Malaysian institutions. Using the questionnaire and evaluation rubrics, experts were asked to offer insights with the following objectives: (i) to evaluate the design features; (ii) to examine the computational concepts; and (iii) to examine the computational practices of the Robobug board game. The research found that the Robobug board game has significant potential for use as an unplugged tool and alternative technique for instructors to enhance CT abilities outside the typical classroom. Additionally, it can be utilized to incorporate collaborative and game-based learning into teachers' instructional strategies to boost student engagement and achievement. The Robobug board game's shortcomings and suggestions for improvement are discussed.</text>

<text>The existence of a game-based mobile application in the field of education has largely helped students to be more interested and motivated to learn due to the presence of game elements in the apps which makes learning more interesting. The Jawi script is one of the subjects that is difficult to learn by younger generation since they do not apply the use of Jawi in their private lives. The inclusion of creative features such as game elements should attract students to explore the Jawi script. A pre- experimental one- group pre- test and post- test study was conducted in which a game-based mobile application for learning Jawi subject named G-Jawi was developed and tested among 20 primary school students in order to observe how the elements of the game in the mobile app impacted their Jawi spelling skills. The apps were also evaluated by 5 teachers and the findings shows that the game-based mobile application was able to improve the students’ performance. This finding was supported by positive results amongst the students which revealed a mean value for the post- test was higher than the pre- test of 89.00. In conclusion, the mobile games app has successfully enhanced student’s understanding of Jawi subjects compared to the traditional learning methods.</text>

<text> In the past, Jawi script was the main medium of intermediation in Malaya. However, since the emergence of the Roman script, the use of Jawi script has been marginalized causing less awareness among some of the younger generation on the uniqueness of Jawi script. Therefore, a mobile application has been developed to attract students to explore Jawi script especially the spelling of Jawi words. This Jawi Spelling Skills mobile application used constructivism approach and ADDIE model during the development process. This study used quantitative one group pre-test and post-test research design that conducted among 20 students of a primary school. The result shows that the mean value of the post-test was higher than the pre-test which is 89.00 while the percentage of students who liked the Jawi Spelling Skills mobile learning application was high. In conclusion, the application of Jawi Spelling Skills Mobile Learning Application able to attract students to learn Jawi indirectly raised the dignity of Jawi script in the future besides supporting the 21st- century education.</text>

<text>Sungai Pusu is the river that passes through the IIUM Gombak campus. The river has been having a cloudy appearance for years hence it is needed to quantify the vital signs such as pH, temperature, and turbidity because these are the vital signs indicating the health of a river. Currently, there a lot of monitoring systems however the available monitoring systems do not support long-range communication and consume a lot of power. The data need to be transmitted at a long-range as it is being monitored remotely at a long distance. Therefore, a river pollution monitoring system must be developed to track the emergency vital signs (EVSs) of the river water The EVs include pH, temperature as well as turbidity. This project capitalizes on the long-range communication and low power consumption LoRaWAN system. The prototype monitoring station design can read the important EVSs of the river such as temperature, pH level, and turbidity. The sensors are connected to a microcontroller board. The readings of the EVSs are transmitted by the LoRa gateway which is forwarding the data to The Things Network Server. A graphical representation of the data is displayed on Ubidots. The results attained quantify the contribution of the IIUM populace to Sungai Pusu Pollution and raise awareness. It is also important to discuss the possibilities to the pollution of the river to see how one’s action could contribute to it. A statistical data of the results is as important so that an overall result can be deduced. Based on the results, the pH is decreased 1.32 pH, the temperature is increased by 2.29°C, and turbidity is decreased by 0.44 NTU throughout the monitoring period. In the future, six more monitoring stations will be added to accommodate KL River of Life (RoL) EVSs too.</text>
