<text>Shipbuilding is on the verge of blooming into the major foreign revenue-earning industry in Bangladesh. A number of export-oriented shipyards are developed to deliver different kinds of ships for local and international clients. For designing a ship, model testing facilities are required not only to predict power requirements but also to evaluate its performance in actual sea operation. At present, Bangladesh does not have this facility. Also carrying out model testing is very expensive and time consuming. Therefore, now-a-days most of the shipyards all over the world are using virtual or computational towing tank facility. Due to improvement of solution algorithm for handling non-linear problem and computational infrastructure, computational or virtual towing tank can be used as a replacement of physical towing tank experiments. In the present study, a numerical or computational towing tank technique named WISDAM which is developed at The University of Tokyo, Japan is described with its applicability in perspective of Bangladesh shipbuilding industries.DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.3329/jname.v11i1.15619</text>

<text>Prediction of ship's response in real voyage condition is essential for efficient ship design. At sea, ships rarely voyage in head wave conditions, and mostly prefer oblique waves for lower resistance and better propulsion. This paper provides oblique wave simulation results for a container, tanker and bulk carrier using a commercial potential flow (PF) based solver, HydroSTAR. Although, PF codes have limitation regarding resistance prediction, they are well reliable in predicting ship motion in waves. The paper aims at providing a relative comparison of ship resistance and motion in different heading angles for three major ship models namely KCS, KVLCC2 and JBC. The paper should prove useful to shippers in case of weather routing or route selection for voyage. </text>

<text>A commercial CFD code Fluent 6.3® is used to simulate non-linear free surface flow and compute the impact load during variable velocity water entry of 2D wedge and ship section. The code uses the finite volume method to solve the conservation of mass and momentum equations to obtain simulated flow field. The interface between water and air was modeled using volume of fluid (VOF) method. Wedge section with 30 degree dead-rise angle and a ship section are numerically simulated. Time history of impact force and pressures at distinct locations are predicted; and compared with existing experimental results and other numerical methods. Present numerical results compare well with experimental measurements.DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.3329/jname.v10i1.14383</text>

<text>Effective study plan is a predictor of good academic performance. However, there are few evidences available on the role of gender and age in the study plan for students. This paper investigated the role of gender and age in the adoption of study plan that can guarantee success. A questionnaire was designed and administered to undergraduate students of a world class privately funded university located in Ogun State, Nigeria. Simple random sampling was used and 294 students responded. Chi-square test of independence revealed that gender and age are not associated with frequency of study, study environment, study content preferences and study motivation. There is no Gender difference in the preference of study type, factors that drive, motivation for study and satisfaction with the study plan whereas, age is significantly associated. The logistic regression model was significant and correctly classified 66.3% of satisfaction with the study plan. Gender was not significant and age of students can predict their satisfaction with their study plan. Older students have more odds to be satisfied with their study plan. As students progressed from year one to the final year, they tend to adopt a study plan that can help them obtain high grades and graduate with good result. Artificial Neural Network correctly classified 71.4% of satisfaction using only age as the only factor because, only age contributed significantly to the logistic regression model. Timely academic advising or mentorship is advocated especially for freshers.</text>

<text>This paper investigates the thermodynamic framework of a three-bed advanced adsorption chiller, where the mass recovery scheme has been utilized such that the performances of this chiller could be improved and a CFC-free-based sorption chiller driven by the low-grade waste heat or any renewable energy source can be developed for the next generation of refrigeration. Silica gel-water is chosen as adsorbent-refrigerant pair. The three-bed adsorption chiller comprises with three sorption elements (SEs), one evaporator and one condenser. The configuration of SE1 and SE2 are identical, but the configuration of SE3 is taken as half of SE1 or SE2. Mass recovery process occurs between SE3 with either SE1 or SE2 and no mass recovery between SE1 and SE2 occurs. The mathematical model shown herein is solved numerically. In the present numerical solution, the heat source temperature variation is taken from 50 to 90ºC along with coolant inlet temperature at 30ºC and the chilled water inlet temperature at 14ºC. A cycle simulation computer program is constructed to analyze the influence of operating conditions (hot and cooling water temperature) on COP (coefficient of performance), SCP (specific cooling power), η (chiller efficiency) and chilled water outlet temperature. <text>The ability to speak English fluently and confidently plays a vital role in enhancing employment opportunities of graduate students of India. Though English has been a second language for over decades in the country, teaching speaking skills with intelligible pronunciation to the first generation of learners remains a major challenge. The limited number of classes allotted for English speaking and pronunciation and lack of resources make it more challenging. Previous research suggests that Mobile Assisted Language Learning (MALL) offers anywhere and anytime learning opportunities for second language learners. However, there is little research on how mobile learning enhances speaking skills and pronunciation of tertiary level students from rural areas who lack exposure to English outside the classroom. The present paper aims at studying the impact of MALL in improving a) speaking skills b) segmental and suprasegmental features of pronunciation and c) the viability of bring your own device (BYOD) approach. Mixed methods approach has been adopted for collecting the data from twenty five (n=25) randomly selected students who underwent training with BYOD. The results showed a positive effect on the speaking skills and the overall intelligibility of the participants. The use of smartphones also resulted in improved learners’ engagement in the language learning. Teachers at tertiary level could benefit from the study, adopt digital technologies in L2 teaching and learning and further extend the scope of the study with their experiences.</text>

<text>The setting up of Municipal administration opened a new era in Mysore state during the second half of the 19th century. The lifestyle of the inhabitants of the city started to change gradually. The municipal administration was introduced with the intention to provide basic civic amenities, which were unknown to the people at that time. The gradual implementation of urban administration scheme at that time resulted in improving the present status of the democratic institutions at city level in Mysore state. It was because of establishment of Municipality at Bangalore in 1862, today we can witness an all-round progress and development in the sphere of drinking water facility, drainage system, supply of electricity, construction and maintenance of roads, beautiful gardens, city extensions etc. in Bangalore city.
In this article an attempt has been made to trace out the factors responsible for the implementation of municipal administration in the State and growth of Bangalore city Municipality from 1862-1900.</text>

<text>Stroke has become a phenomenon in Indonesia. From 2014 to mid-2015, the disease is the first cause of death in Indonesia. This is of particular concern to the Ministry of Health so that the prevention, treatment, and prevention of stroke is further enhanced. The condition of stroke patients whose movements are limited is exacerbated by the psychic condition of patients who are unable to communicate pressure will cause obstacles to the healing process of the patient. This research proposes a stroke patient communication media by applying the technology of Mobile Finger Communication Board and user center design approach (UCD). This communication board is operated using the patient's fingers so that it is comfortable for everyday activities. Mobile Finger Communication Board Design based on five planes of user experience. The result of Mobile Finger Communication Board implementation shows that application usability level seen from perception and ergonomic point of view shows satisfaction index of the user at the satisfactory level so that it can be said that the system works with the satisfactory result of the users. It is expected that with a convenient Mobile Finger Communication Board can support the healing process of stroke so that the healing rate of stroke is increasing. </text>
