<text>The article in review, “The Korean Nuclear Imbroglio: Can India be a Muted Spectator?”, written by Sitakanta Mishra, brings to light the strategic environment of the region of North Asia and the Korean Peninsula. The region in question is increasingly characterised, for good reasons, by the impact it has to endure due to the nuclearisation of North Korea. Efforts to denuclearise North Korea has only, till now, achieved nothing more than a stalemate. This has raised concerns all over the world as North Korea progresses in the path of nuclearisation under the direction of an authoritarian regime to which the world has limited access. At a time, such as this, it is impractical to focus on approaches to manage the crisis without properly understanding and recognising North Korea’s security concerns which prompted it to become a nuclear power. Only after grasping the full picture should the focus be on how to contain North Korea when it is engaging in activities which reflects an increase in its nuclear capabilities, thereby challenging the preservation of stability in not only the region of North Asia but the whole of Asia and the world. The strategic environment in the region is largely dictated by the dynamics of deterrence employed by both U.S-ROK and North Korea, which may have contributed to the ongoing crisis. The article then proceeds to highlight the need for a reevaluation of the Korean crisis from a non-western standpoint. Sitakanta Mishra attempts to usher in an Asian nation’s perspective by raising an important question as to what role should India, being a nuclear power itself and an aspiring superpower, play in this strategic narrative to resolve the worrisome nuclear crisis of North Korea.</text>

<text>Incidents of sexual harassment in universities is a growing global concern. In order to make educational campuses a safe space for students, universities have developed and implemented various Anti-Sexual Harassment (ASH) programmes. However, it is imperative to validate the appropriateness of such policies to identify gaps and better develop the ASH programmes and the redressal mechanism employed by universities. This paper aims to evaluate the efficacy of the policies on prevention of sexual harassment formulated by the University Grants Commission (UGC) in India, which is implemented in approximately 967 higher educational institutions across the country. Two policies: the University Grants Commission (Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal of sexual harassment of women employees and students in higher educational institutions) Regulation 2015 and the Saksham Report (Measures for ensuring the safety of Women and Programmes for Gender Sensitisation on Campuses) 2013 are systematically reviewed using the Sadler effectiveness triangle that breaks down the policy to its Procedural, Transcriptive and Substantive Value in order to evaluate the policy principles, the policy measures and the implementation of these measures. Key findings of the analysis were: Absence of consent education in gender sensitisationprogrammes, lack of survivor-centered and trauma sensitive approaches, gaps in the appointment and qualification of members of the Internal Complaints Committee (ICC) which is responsible for sexual harassment redressalin universities and a lack of representation of sexualityminorities in both the gender programmes and ICC.</text>

<text>The implementation of the Pre-conception and Prenatal Diagnostic Techniques (Prohibition of Sex Selection) Act, 1994 in a patriarchal country like India does not necessarily eliminate sex-selective abortions. The prevalence of a higher preference of sons in India can be identified in previous studies. Over the years a drastic fall in Total Fertility Rates both in urban and rural areas of India can be observed along with various inventions of sex determination techniques. All this has resulted in a decline in child sex ratio across the country. China is a great example of a country with alarming gender imbalances, which emerged due to similar changes in Total Fertility Rate, level of son preference and diagnostic techniques along with the implementation of the One-Child Policy, which made the gender imbalance even worse. The population explosion in India has forced several state governments to consider the implementation of a Two Child Policy. The relationship between Sex Selective Abortions (SSA) and Family Planning Policies is not a well-established phenomenon in India as per several studies that have been conducted as of today. Our objective in this paper is to see whether the stringent implementation of nation-wide Family Planning Policies will lead to a rise in sex selective abortions in India. Further we would also like to analyse how in India by imposing a Family Planning Policy like a one or a two-child policy will the Child Sex Ratio (age 0-6) get affected? To achieve these objectives, we have used the NFHS-4 reports as our data sources.</text>

<text>Literature has always been a refuge and a means of resistance for ethnic minorities. Algerian Jewish Literature has evolved through time as a testimony of existence. It reiterates the echo of the Algerian Jewish experience on the Algerian soil with all its intricacies, during the French colonization. Algerian Jewish literature provides today an interesting workspace to study the historical tie between two religions, two cultures, two memories that split due to a historical choice. The Cremieux decree, was a kind of favoritism to Jews that distant them absolutely from people they lived with for centuries. The article examines assimilation of Jews to the French that worked well since the beginning of colonization. Identification to the French has been ultimate and critical in the eyes of the Muslims. With the coming of independence, exile became more and more central. Though exile is a recurrent phenomenon for Jews, it is nevertheless a step in the making of their identity in the French society. By 1962, Jews were completely strangers in their native land and exile became an obligatory step. The Jews have probably whispered the victory of France, they dreamt of it while aspiring to remain home. When the time was for departure, many Jews were still assuming a happy end for France, but the events went differently.

<text>This paper empirically analyses the effect of women’s status on human development. We define “status” in terms of economic opportunities, political empowerment, bodily autonomy and freedom of choice. Our study focuses on developing countries where patriarchal norms and gender discrimination play a major role in undermining women’s role in society. We find that, except political empowerment, all other dimensions have a significant impact on development. After examining the reasons behind the relationship between women’s status and human development, our study makes a compelling case for promoting gender-inclusive policy-making in order to attain national and global developmental goals. </text>

Chinese Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) has increased in Kenya as China finds it feasible to invest in the region looking at the viability of the project. The paper aims to see whether Kenya is benefiting from China’s partnership and how effectively it helps to expand Kenya’s economy. The paper also understands China-Kenya relations along the lines of the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) and all the infrastructural projects in Kenya.
