This paper seeks to extend the argument further by looking into the representational politics within the Third World feminist discourses. The specific objectives of the study are to analyse the lack of popularity of newspapers in Lakshadweep, to study the media habits and media preferences of the islanders and to study the coverage given to local Lakshadweep issues in newspapers.The survey method was utilized to collect data required for the study. It was conducted only in the Kavaratti islands, the capital of Lakshadweep The following reasons are noted for the lack of popularity of newspapers in Lakshadweep. Delay in getting newspaper in time, Lakshadweep local news do not get adequate coverage in newspapers, Regular newspaper readers are less in number, subscribers of newspaper are less in number, few people depend on newspaper for breaking news, After the arrival of electronic media, the natives gradually shifted to electronic media for news. Very few people (4%) prefer newspapers for information purposes, while the vast majority depend on Television. In a region populated by scheduled tribes there is a pressing need to enhance their public awareness, to strengthen democracy at the grassroots and gain a better understanding of media habits in such isolated areas. This exploratory study has thrown fresh light on media coverage and media habits of such marginalised communities. The study is confined to only one island Kavaratti, the capital of Lakshadweep. Perhaps in future more detailed studies on such topics need to be undertaken keeping in mind their social relevance. We have divided the optimization problem into five main parts, namely, Input, Equation, Constraint, Output and Objective Function. The constraints, which are the considerations to be fulfilled, become the director of this process and a minimum and a maximum value are set on each constraint so as to give the working area of the optimization. The outputs (decision variables) are optimized in favor of minimizing the objective function. Microsoft Excel-Premium Solver Platform (a spreadsheet modeling tool is utilized to model the optimization problem). This paper is commenced by the description of the general optimization problems, and is followed by the model construction of the optimization. A case study on the determination of ship's main dimensions and its power requirement is performed with the main objective to minimize the Economic Cost of Transport (ECT). After simulating the model and verifying the results, it is observed that the spreadsheet model yields considerably comparable results with the main dimensions and power requirement data of the real operated ships (tanker). Emotional Intelligence Scale and Cattell's 16 PF Inventory were used to collect data. A sample of 300 teacher trainees undergoing the B.Ed. course in 6 Colleges of Education during 2003-04 constituted the sample for the present study. In selecting the colleges as well as students, the random sampling technique was used. The Pearson's Product-moment Coefficient of Correlation technique, the Multiple Regression Analysis (linear), and the Path Analysis techniques were used. The study revealed that: (i) Personality factors like A, B, C, E, F G, H, and Q3 have positive association with emotional intelligence, personality factors like Q2, Q4, and 0 have negative relationship with emotional intelligence of teacher trainees, personality factors such as I, L, M, N, and Q1 do not have any association with emotional intelligence of teacher trainees; (ii) Factor — G seems to be the best predictor of emotional intelligence among all the predictor variables; (iii) Direct as well as indirect path coefficients of personality components like Factors A, B, C, E, G, H, Q2, Q3, Q4 were found to be significant, whereas, the path coefficients of personality components such as Factors F, I, L, M N, 0, Q, were found to be not significant.
